- Legenda: Lety (Czech Republic), 23/04/2024.- Visitors at the exhibition during the opening of the Holocaust Memorial to the Roma and Sinti in Lety, Czech Republic, 23 April 2024. The memorial stands on the site of the so-called Gypsy camp, which was run by the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia during World War II between 1942 and 1943. This area was used for the forced concentration of mostly Czech Roma and Sinti before their deportation to the Auschwitz II-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp. According to the latest historical research, 1294 people passed through the camp, of whom at least 335 died there. The camp buildings were razed and burned after the last mass transport in 1943 because of a typhoid epidemic. Since the 1970s, a large-scale pig farm has been operating here. It stand practically the entire area of the former camp. The pigsty was demolished in 2022 and the Holocaust Memorial of the Roma and Sinti in Bohemia was built in its place.
