Romania's National Bank launches a coin dedicated to the anniversary of 20 years of NATO membership
Bucharest (Romania), 29/04/2024.- Mugur Isarescu, the Governor of the National Bank of Romania (BNR), delivers the opening speech at the beginning of the conference 'Romania in NATO - 20 Years of Security and Euro-Atlantic Values', organized by the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) at the National Bank of Romania headquarters in Bucharest, Romania, 29 April 2024. On 29 March 2004, Romania joined the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), following the decision taken at the Prague Summit, in November 2002. The silver and copper coins, issued by the BNR to mark 20 years since Romania's accession to NATO, are legal tender on the territory of Romania, being put into circulation for numismatic purposes only. The obverse of the two issued coins depicts the Palace of Parliament, where Romania'Äôs accession treaty to NATO was ratified, while the reverse of the coins displays the NATO logo. The two NATO-labeled coins (Silver and Copper versions) were issued in 5,000 pieces per edition for each type, the maximum mintage being 5,000 pieces for each.
